Saturday night dates are one of the highlights of my week. Deciding somewhere to eat always seems to be an obstacle, we always resort to the old ‘I pick three, you pick two of my three, and I’ll pick one of your two.’ We drive to our normal spot, order our normal dish and take our leftovers home. It never comes to mind to go to one of the neat restaurants that are peppered throughout Cookeville’s downtown. Most of these spots have local musicians entertaining during your dinner.
Going to one of these smaller restaurants offers you the opportunity to enjoy a new environment. Most of these local spots do shop locally and offer fresh, local ingredients. The small town feel and size always makes me feel more at home and like I am getting better service. A few places I like to frequent are Seven Senses, The Cooke House, Char, Crawdaddys, and Mauricio’s. If you’re looking for a little drive, I would also recommend The Bull and Thistle in Gainesboro. All of these offer a different, yet satisfying, environment.
If you’re looking for classic, fresh American style food make a stop at Seven Senses. Offering seafood, salads, and plenty of fantastic sides! The atmosphere is inviting and usually has live entertainment. Also, very fitting to this group is Char and The Cooke House. Char, like Seven Senses, this one usually buzzes with live local music. Dishing out soups, salads, sandwiches and pastas, everyone will find something to their liking here. The Cooke House offers a little bit more of a formal setting. Providing brunch, lunch, and dinner menus, you’re going to love this place! With yummy omelets, lobster bacon pizza, and strawberry duck barbecue tacos. The options are so delicious! If you are leaning more towards authentic Italian, look no further than Mauricio’s… their menu spans from classic spaghetti and fettuccine Alfredo, to veal Marsala and Pappardelle with scallops. This restaurant is a beautiful, casual, romantic place to dine.
If you have been searching for a new, trendy environment do not think twice about these options. I personally recommend them. Not to mention eating local helps benefit our growing community! Here’s to fresh local ingredients, supporting Cookeville, and enjoying our Saturday nights.
